FAQ

Does the average number of visitors include bots?
Yes. To make a visual representation of our method, look at the map in-world: we count the number of
green dots. It's not possible to make a difference between a visitor and a bot.
How exact are your statistics?
We check the number of avatars on a region 1-3 times each day. We take the average of these 1-3 numbers to show
on the chart. Becase we don't check the number of visitors on region more often, for example every hour, or even
better, every minute, there might be a large deviation between the statistics we report in our chart and
the real number of visitors.
Can you not check more often?
We have several products that check a region more often. Check our Region Array Counter
or Region Counter which check a region every 10 seconds or every hour resp.
My visitor counter shows much higher numbers
A visitor counter counts unique visitors per day, here we show the average number of visitors each day.
Check our Visitor counters to count the unique number of visitors
on your parcel or region.
I don't want that you count visitors on my region.
Send us an e-mail with your avatar name and region. We will contact you in-world to confirm your request.
Next, we will verify ownership of the region and remove the region from our scan process.
I don't want that you count my avatar.
We only count "green dots" on the in-world map. We don't capture avatar names.
Are the charts up-to-date?
Depends. Updates of a set of regions are performed every day.
Region charts data might be 5 days old before they are updated again.
Can you compare this with the way Alexa tracts websites?
The short answer is NO. Alexa gathers website traffic
using a toolbar installed by users that visit the websites being tracked.
The method used by Quantcast or
Hitwise resembles more closely our way of obtaining data. These companies
use data from ISPs to calculate website traffic. A good overview is
available here
